Gawai Day or Gawai Dayak

Gawai Day or Gawai Dayak is a festival celebrated in Sarawak on 1 June every year. It is both a religious and social occasion. The word Gawai means a ritual or festival whereas Dayak is a collective name for the native ethnic groups of Sarawak (and neighboring Indonesian Kalimantan): the Iban, also known as Sea Dayak and the Bidayuh people, also known as Land Dayak. Thus, Gawai Dayak literally means â€Å"Dayak Festival†. Dayak would visit their friends and relatives on this day. Such visit is more commonly known as â€Å"ngabang† in the Iban language. Those too far away to visit would receive greeting cards. It started back in 1957 in a radio forum held by Mr Ian Kingsley, a radio programme organiser. This generated a lot of interest among the Dayak community. The mode of celebration varies from place to place. Preparation starts early. Tuak (rice wine) is brewed (at least one month before the celebration) and traditional delicacies like penganan (cakes from rice flour, sugar and coconut milk) are prepared. As the big day approaches, everyone will be busy with general cleaning and preparing food and cakes. On Gawai Eve, glutinous rice is steamed in bamboo (ngelulun pulut). In the longhouse, new mats will be laid out on the ruai (an open gallery which runs through the entire length of the longhouse). The walls of most bilik (rooms) and the ruai are decorated with Pua Kumbu (traditional blankets). A visit to clean the graveyard is also conducted and offerings offered to the dead. After the visit it is important to bathe before entering the longhouse to ward off bad luck. The celebration starts on the evening of 31 May. In most Iban longhouses, it starts with a ceremony called Muai Antu Rua (to cast away the spirit of greed), signifying the non-interference of the spirit of bad luck in the celebration. Two children or men each dragging a chapan (winnowing basket) will pass each family's room. Every family will throw some unwanted article into the basket. The unwanted articles will be tossed to the ground from the end of the longhouse for the spirit of bad luck. Around 6 pm or as the sun sets, miring (offering ceremony) will take place. Before the ceremony, gendang rayah (ritual music) is performed. The Feast Chief thanks the gods for the good harvest, and asks for guidance, blessings and long life as he waves a cockerel over the offerings. He then sacrifices the cockerel and a little blood is used together with the offerings. Once the offering ceremony is done, dinner is then served at the ruai. Just before midnight, a procession up and down the ruai seven times called Ngalu Petara (welcoming the spirit gods) is performed. During this procession, a beauty pageant to choose the festival's queen and king (Kumang & Keling Gawai) is sometimes conducted. Meanwhile, drinks, traditional cakes and delicacies are served. At midnight, the gong is beaten to call the celebrants to attention. The longhouse Chief (tuai rumah) or Festival Chief will lead everyone to drink the Ai Pengayu (normally tuak for long life) and at the same time wish each other â€Å"gayu-guru, gerai-nyamai† (long life, health and prosperity). The celebration now turns merrier and less formal. Some will dance to the traditional music played, others will sing the pantun (poems). In urban areas, Dayaks will organise gatherings at community centres or restaurants to celebrate the evening. Other activities that may follow the next few days include: cock-fighting matches, and blowpipe and ngajat competitions. On this day, 1 June, homes of the Dayaks are opened to visitors and guests. Traditionally, when guests arrive at a longhouse, they are given the ai tiki as a welcome. From time to time, guests are served tuak. This would be called nyibur temuai which literally means â€Å"watering of guests†. Christian Dayaks normally attend a church mass service to thank God for the good harvest. Gawai Dayak celebrations may last for several days. It is also during this time of year that many Dayak weddings take place, as it is one of the rare occasions when all the members of the community return home to their ancestral longhouse. Up till 1962, the British colonial government refused to recognise Dayak Day. Gawai Dayak was formally gazetted on 25 September 1964 as a public holiday in place of Sarawak Day. It was first celebrated on 1 June 1965 and became a symbol of unity, aspiration and hope for the Dayak community. Today, it is an integral part of Dayak social life. It is a thanksgiving day marking good harvest and a time to plan for the new farming season or activities ahead.

Management Accounting Report Essay

In decision making process ambiguity, variability and uncertainty are often faced. For this reason Risk Analysis is always part of any decision making process. Even if the access to information is unprecedented even then future can’t be predicted accurately. For this reason Monte Carlo simulation is used which provides all the possible outcomes of decisions, access the impacts of risks and allow better decision making under uncertain situations. Monte Carlo Simulation: It is a computerized mathematical technique based on broad class of computer algorithms which allow people and organisations to calculate risks and hence helps in better decision making. Monte Carlo Simulation can also be termed as a problem solving technique to calculate probability of outcomes by using random variables and multiple trials which are termed as simulations (Berg, 2004). Monte Carlo Simulation is used by professionals in engineering, medicine, physics, chemists, project management, manufacturing, research and development, environmental specialists, oil and gas and several business functions. This is a reflective report in which case study of Fennel Design Project of Laura Watson company is used to predict the demand of greeting cards. The aim of the report is to speculate the situation of the Fennel Design project and also to provide a base for the companies experiencing these situations. This report uses discrete data of continuous range In this report discrete data of continuous range is used. Example of discrete data is when a coin flips in air, it have two possibilities either head or tail. Whereas, a running engine might have many temperature changes at different time intervals which is an example of continuous data. Laura Watson is a new company and so can also face these uncertainties as they don’t have any idea of when to produce, when to produce, supply and demand analysis and the situation which drives these factors. For this reason Monte Carlo Simulation is used to calculate predicted demand, risk analysis in order to provide company with useful information which then can be utilized to make timely decision making. This report is divided into three main parts. In Monte Carlo Simulation we can take as many amounts of trials to get an accurate answer. But, in the given casestudy, business manager’s Alex and Laura took one thousand trials. Number of trials increases the profit probabilities and helps in getting close results and reduces the chances of risks. In this question we have to calculate the price of the cards and for this we used Descriptive Analysis Function in Microsoft Excel. This Function automatically calculates all statistical data like mean, median, mode and standard deviation. Whereas, in task two WHAT IF analysis helps us in getting the results within the given number of trials. It creates thee situations or results which are base case scenario, best case scenario and worst case scenario. When the values of these situations are changed answer automatically changes. It is very helpful for managers in decision making. In task three risk simulation function and random functions are used which makes a balance between mean and standard deviation given in the projected demand. Rand command is used to calculate the cost of parts, random discreet method is used to. Variance Reduction is used to minimize non accurate profits. These all function enables to calculate price and predict risk. In this report every function is calculated independently to make the process easy to understand and clear. By using Monte Carlo Simulation we have calculated all the possible parameters required in the case study and also predicted the risk. It helps the managers to make quick and accurate decisions. Comparison Essay: Susan Glaspell’s “the Jury of Her Peers”

Susan Glaspell’s â€Å"The Jury of Her Peers† and Eudora Welty’s â€Å"A Worn Path† are great examples of the use of symbolism in short story literature. â€Å"The Jury of Her Peers† tells the story of a murder investigation that takes place in Dickson County in the 1910’s, in which Minnie Wright is the main suspect. Welty’s piece, on the other hand, is a narration of an old black woman’s long journey to get her sick grandson a Christmas present, a selfless deed on Phoenix’s behalf. In both stories, the use of symbolism is clearly reproduced, in a similar manner, to develop the character and the situation. However, the depth and the complexity of those symbols, provides â€Å"A Worn Path† with a much better content-symbol relationship, which in turn, works better for the plot of the story. A character’s personality and main traits are amongst the most important elements in any literary piece and the use of sy mbolism is an excellent tool toward accomplishing roundness in a character. In â€Å"The Jury of Her Peers†, the bird (a canary) is the symbol used to describe Minnie’s character as â€Å"Real sweet and pretty, but kind of timid and – fluttery† (208).This symbol embodies Minnie before she got married and was taken away by her husband to live in total isolation. Although the symbol is well presented in the story, it is done so in a literal way, which takes away from the meaning and interpretation to be given by the reader. The female characters in the story make allusion, in parts of their speech, to this symbol. This can be observed when one of the characters (the sheriff’s wife) says â€Å"She [Minnie] – come to think of it, she was kind of like a bird herself† (208), which covers in a few words, the meaning of the bird symbol. In contrast, in â€Å"A Worn Path†, the meaning of the symbol proposed to define the main character, is implied rather than literarily presented. Phoenix, which is the protagonist’s name, is also a mythical bird that is characterized by its strength, long life and the ability to rise from its own ashes after it dies. This interpretation, or any other that can be drawn in accordance to different mythologies, is not mentioned in any way along the story. It is implied and can only be deduced through the knowledge of the protagonist’s determination and drive. As she travels â€Å"up through pines† (6) and â€Å"down through oaks† (6), this old lady never even considers giving up and returning home empty handed. Similarly, the situation presented in both stories is also exposed through the use of symbolism. In â€Å"The Jury of Her Peers†, this symbolism is introduced in the form of a cage, which is home to Minnie’s canary but, at the same time, represents her current situation. The symbol in this case is used to show the isolation and confinemen t in which Minnie is living â€Å"down in a hollow†¦ lonesome place† (198). It is a universal symbol and, as such, can be easily interpreted. However, it is not a very deep one; it is does not take much effort for a reader to realize its meaning. In contrast, â€Å"A Worn Path† uses an authorial symbol, which only applies to the context of the story. This in no way means a better way of presenting the situation, but the way the symbol is put in the story does give it a deeper meaning. The paper windmill is, in this context, set to represent Phoenix’s situation. She is a â€Å"very old and small† (1) woman, frail and poor, which is exactly what the paper windmill is used to symbolize, a very fragile and cheap object. This symbolism can also be analyzed from Phoenix’s grandson’s point of view, as to him, it would be a symbol of generosity and kindness. No matter how poor they are, his grandmother spent money and effort to surprise him. As old Phoenix told the nurse in town, â€Å"He going to find hard to believe there such a thing in the world†, such is his perception of his grandmother. As shown before, symbolism is a great tool that, when used properly, can provide a short story with a lot of meaning and depth. It is an excellent way to imply significance to a simple element in a story and to provide a deeper sense of the reality to the reader. Welty’s piece, â€Å"A Worn Path†, achieves a higher level of connotation than Glaspell does in â€Å"The Jury of Her Peers†, where the meaning of the elements used as symbols are either explained within the piece, or too simple to have a deep meaning. Also, the combination of universal and authorial symbols provides â€Å"A Worn Path† with more ideas and conclusions to be drawn from the symbols presented. In conclusion, Welty makes better use of symbolism to accomplish a more complete piece. â€Å"A Worn Path† is an excellent example of the proper use of symbolism to deliver a story that is both deep and interesting. It provides the reader with an attention-grabbing plot as well as, implied ideas that give the reader a better sense of the significance of the symbols used without actually explaining them.WORK CITED Glaspell, Susan. â€Å"The Jury of Her Peers†. Transgenic Plants and Animals Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

Transgenic Plants and Animals - Essay Example Transgenic plants can help in the area of food sufficiency, through production of high yielding crop varieties; improving plant tolerance against extreme conditions such as drought or floods; increasing resistance to pests; and increasing resistance to herbicides. These improvements would reduce production cost, reduce wastage, increase yield per hectare and thereby increase food availability. Today, varieties of peanuts and corn resistant to pests are already grown throughout the world. In health, genetic modifications can aid in making life saving drugs in large amounts. Transgenic livestock that produce recombinant proteins in their milk can provide an economic and safe system for production of valuable proteins, such as pharmaceutical proteins for treatment or prevention of human disease or biomaterials for medical use (Keefer, 2004). As an example insulin and the clotting factors are made by human systems. If we insert the gene that is capable of producing insulin from humans into cows in the right way, then we can get the cows to produce the insulin or clotting factors in their milk. Then we have a potential mass producer of insular greater than human is capable of doing. In the areas of nutrition, common staple crops like rice, corn, root crops, and others can be modified to produce varieties high in necessary nutrients. In the area of environment, organisms can de modified to degrade non-biodegradable plastics and other materials and make them more useful to the environment. Major concerns on transgenic plants and animals The production of transgenic plants and animals has faced several concerns among conservatives in Europe, America, and almost every corners of the globe. Thro (2004) emphasized that there are conflicting views about the idea... The researcher states that recent development in biotechnology that gains attention in the scientific world is the alteration of genetic components of plants and animals. The process involves adding and integrating foreign genetic material into the genetic structures of the plants and animals. Transgenic technology affords methods that allow the transfer of genes between different species. The produced organism is generally called as GMO or transgenic plants or animals. A transgene is a gene with desirable characteristics that is moved from a source organism implanted into a new organism in order to improve the desired characteristics of the recipient organism. This is an improvement from the traditional process of breeding wherein a plant or animal with a desired trait is mated with an existing plant or animal of the same type, to transfer the desired trait to the offspring. The limitation of this old method is that the only genes that are involved are the genes already present in t he parental plants or animals. For example, if you bred dogs, you get dogs with genes coming from both dog parents and nothing else. In genetic modification, genes from plants can be integrated into animals or vice versa; genes from birds can be integrated with horses. Production of transgenic plants is expensive and complicated since it uses costly technology and facility. Companies producing GM seeds in countries such as the US desire to produce more revenues on them because they put a lot of resources into making them.

Critically evaluate the above statement. Justify your answer with real Essay

Critically evaluate the above statement. Justify your answer with real life examples - Essay Example On the same token, creativity is the need for being fresh, novel and absolutely unique so that the complex stimulation comes about of age in the most apt manner. Innovation brings out the best within a phenomenon. It highlights the significant aspects that could be exploited in essence to make use of the opportunity areas and thus a new tangent is found altogether. Innovation is extremely useful, at often times it has been known as the best thing that could possibly be found. It is important to define innovation as well. It is a new way of doing a thing or a manner under which new stuff that has been made successful (Ortt, 2008). This innovation aspect might just refer to the incremental and revolutionary changes and amendments that come about within the thinking, products, processes and different realms of an organization. What can be understood from the above statement by Davila et al (2006) is the fact that creativity and innovation are different yet have some features which make the two of these look similar. Creativity is a much desired proposition, more so on the part of the people who believe in its magic. Creativity is all about communicating ideas, values, beliefs and opinions, though in differential settings, ways and means. Creativity is indeed the magic that binds people in wholly different mannerisms and it asks of them to appreciate the creative talent that a person has demonstrated for that matter. Therefore it is a very important element of bringing sanity within the ranks of different work avenues (Fredberg, 2009). Within the fields of culture and business, creativity has its most say. This is because these two areas depict the need for having creativity and thus manifest the exact basis of success in the most apt manner possible. It also goes to show that creativity will rule the roost of the cultural and business quarters if the desire is there to succeed. Within the cultural contexts, creativity comes of age when the people are relying a gre at deal on the people to people interactions. It means that their associations, linkages and relationships are being justified in such a manner that success will eventually shape up in the most appropriate way. It would not be wrong to state here that creativity under the aegis of culture would manifest success, harmony and development for all the right reasons. It would also dictate the basis of finding out the exact details which will embody cultural bonding amongst the people, making them realize as to how they can effectively counter the movements which are happening against the cultural norms (Amabile, 1996). It can also reinforce the message that the cultural awakenings are delivering on the same count nonetheless. As innovation is a deeply inherent trait and characteristic, it has got a huge role to play within the technological realms and thus make its point get across in the time and age of today. Deeply ingrained cultural meanings and depictions have stood the test of time and thus a number of definitions and explanations of both creativity and in

Strategic planning and Control Coursework Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3750 words

Strategic planning and Control - Coursework Example This learning statement is dedicated to outlining the learning that took place and how the learning came about. The module exposed me to two types of learning which were desk learning and field learning. Each of these two brought about different forms of learning for me. For example the desk learning which involved reading from books, articles and the PPT files given by the lecturer exposed me to concepts about planning and control. Today, I know that planning is the fulcrum around which any successful organisation revolves (Bazin, 2012). I have also come to learn that without planning, an organisation cannot be said to have a future (Gunder, 2003). Planning is also very important in setting targets based on several areas of the organisation such as marketing, taxes, logistics, research and development, promotions, and production (Roy, 2008). Indeed through the PPT, I have come to learn how to use PEST analysis, SWOT analysis, Ansoff matrix, Porter’s five forces and many more to strategically plan an organisation (Allmendinger & Gunder, 2005). The field learning involved those concepts and knowledge I acquired whiles involving myself in real interaction with people including colleagues in my team and customers on the market. As a result of the field learning also, I have come to learn so much about market demographic dynamics where I now that the best way to serve any given market is to have a thorough understanding of the different forms of needs available to the customer (Das, Binod, Kar & Rauno, 2012). Indeed the field learning also helped in developing several soft skills in me, most of which focused on communication skills, leadership skills, interpersonal relations skills, time management, ethics and courtesy, and critical thinking skills. An example of instance that can be cited as accounting for the development of the soft skills is when I needed to interact with

Reflective report Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words - 1

Reflective report - Essay Example These included self confidence, the levels of conservatism exuded, assertiveness, as well as risk taking. The other aspect that was considered was the attitude of the diners. The objective was also to profile the complainers against the non complainers in terms of choice of action that the former decides to take. Other than, the objective sought to establish the relationships that lies between the aforementioned factors. Lastly, the study sought to come up with what would be termed as an appropriate complaint behavior from the Chinese diners. The essay was evaluated by my professor. From the evaluation, the comments that were received were very positive. In fact, the evaluation insinuated that the research had been collectively conducted in a successful manner. The ideas that were focused on in the essay showed consistency as well as a well thought outline. In fact, the final grade that I was assigned from the evaluation shows that it was a successful study. In the feedback that I re ceived, however, there were some points that were raised by the instructor. For instance, there was the recommendation that I adopted a language which would easily be understood by everyone. The criticism was that I should be coherent in explaining some of the issues raised in the course of the essay. Being a dissertation on management, the focus on the anticipated course of action that Chinese diners would take should be brought out clearly from the start of the essay till the end. Otherwise, the essay is relatively well written and well researched. It gives the necessary information on the topical subject. In the case of a viva in the mid ear,my performance in terms of the essay would not have been bad. In fact, I would rate my essay as good. This comes from many factors which mainly relate to a personal evaluation on the essay done. In reference to providing good answers to the questions provided, it is assertive to state that the essay covered well the questions that were highli ghted in the course of its research. The topics were discussed in view of how relevant they are in the current society. Section 2 The second essay was on a study that was conducted to affirm how relevant CCB was in terms of modern day marketing. In the days gone by, it was the norm. However, in recent years things had changed. Consequently, the study was relevant and was about perfect timing in terms of the predicament. In reference to CCB, research has been carried out under different times in many countries but the information that was availed was not sufficient s of being specific to the developing markets found in countries such as those in Asia. This should bear in mind that countries such as China have a peculiar trait in that their culture as well as religious composition shows homogeneity. The evaluation of the essay was done by my professor. I view of the grading system that is currently used, I would say that the essay was quite precise in highlighting the essence of CCB i n modern day marketing. The issues that were worth praising from my essay is how the ideas that formed the argument were brought out well and clear. The argument was presented in a way that showed either a deep understanding of the topical subject or a well researched work. That is what made the instructor be impressed by my work. However, in as much as the essay showed exemplary understanding of

VIsiting Los Angeles County Museum of Art Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

VIsiting Los Angeles County Museum of Art - Essay Example There were lots of permanent art collections, art galleries and dress exhibitions which I got an opportunity to see Matisse in one. In one building, the Ahmanson, the modern art collections displayed works that went all the way from back in 1900. I loved most David Hackneys’ works which ranged from paintings which spoke a thousand words about people and all the more to nature. I also was intrigued by the truth in art being everywhere. I discovered this as I moved from one piece of art to another and nature, people, common objects, Paintings, music and films revealed art. This is something I had learnt in class though I had really doubted. This visit ascertained this without a doubt. I did not however enjoy this one aspect where every piece of art had a placard giving its name though it did not give sufficient information concerning the art and the artist behind it. And can you imagine I had to pay $11 for iced tea and a bun! This was not funny at all. A serious stereotype I had before I visited this place was that it is a cultural wasteland and it made me not even think about visiting it for such a very long time. Through this project, I discovered that this is just but a lie and that contrary to it; this place is so beautiful and is so rich in culture. Am actually planning to visit it again now that I can’t say I explored it to my

The Facebook Effect on the Interactions of Freshmen Essay

The Facebook Effect on the Interactions of Freshmen - Essay Example In all the recruitment methods, interested subjects were asked to send the research assistant an email regarding the project. They would then receive extra information together with a web link that would enable them complete the survey in their free time. The study was divided into three sections. The first section measured the personality traits such as homesickness, anxiety, depression, stress and self-esteem. The second section assessed the subject’s behavior on Facebook and details such as their number of friends, the number of messages received and sent and the number of comments they received on their posts. After one year, in January 2011, the same subjects were approached again through email to participate in the same survey. The participants were also contacted in June and September 2011. The aim was to access the longitudinal information collected from the subjects who participated in all the four instances in which the study was offered as well as analyze the data fr om the participants who had been involved in the study in less than four cases. The sample size in October 2010 was 161 subjects. In January 2011, there were 171 participants. The analysis of the data from the surveys clearly shows that the use of Facebook is a practical method of managing stress due to the transition to University. Linear regression showed that students who received the most comments and private messages on their posts had a higher self-esteem than those who received less feedback.

RG Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

RG - Essay Example I have been to many other churches in the past but this church exudes a certain level of peculiarity in terms of church practices. Upon my arrival at the church, I was met by an usherette who greeted me blissfully and guided me to my seat. The solemnity inside the church is just the same as many other churches but what you will observe is that Adventists do have this very welcoming spirit: they would smile at you and ask you of where are you from, they would enlist you in their rolls of Sabbath visitors, etc. For me, that was unusual because this is the first church that really recognized my presence to this level. Their church services are different from many other religions because the morning services are divided into two: the first half is the Sabbath School program and the second half would be the Divine Service. I was captivated by the nature of their class discussions: the church is divided into many classes and each class has its own teacher. Everyone in the class, and that i ncluded me, tackled issues on the Bible. The leader even asked for my opinion and was very open-minded about the possibility of my answers. Seventh-day Adventists are very conservative, at least based on my personal experience with the church during my visit, especially when it comes to their music. They do not use drums and electronic guitars; instead, they are only using a piano or an acoustic guitar. One person told me that they refrain from using â€Å"loud† instruments because they believe that it would shift the congregation’s attention to worldly things and they would decrease the level of solemnity of the services. I also noticed that Seventh-day Adventists do have a peculiar grooming. They do not wear earrings, necklaces, or bracelets. Majority of the members I have saw and met during that visit look very simple in their grooming. There is not much embellishment in the body; only watches and marriage rings.

Art And Social Protest During The Vietnam War Research Paper

Art And Social Protest During The Vietnam War - Research Paper Example Many participants of these artworks have different ways to demonstrate and pass their message to the targeted people and empower them on different aspects. During war times, people use artwork to demonstrate the suffering of other people which they undergo and this helps in easing of the situation or more help coming to the people in need. Most paintings may reference a certain War event but it serves for any War and artist aim for generic use and information when making these artworks. Pablo Picasso’s artwork, named after a city in Spain that was a target of terror bomb during the Civil War in Spain. This painting demonstrated the kind of suffering it puts individuals and at most, the innocent people the fame of this art reminds of war tragedies with the symbolization of anti-war and peace. The spread of the artwork throughout the world brought the Spanish War to the attention of the whole world. Picasso never wanted the painting to reach Spain until democracy and liberty for med, this saw the painting put under a high security with a bomb and bulletproof screens for security purposes. This shows the importance of the painting in the fight against the war. The meanings of Picasso’s painting vary according to the interpretation provided. Throughout Picasso’s career, he used the bull and a horse to symbolize different roles since the two are important characters in the Spanish culture. Many victims are visible with some alive and others dead which remains as a historical reminder of the times of war.  ... This shows the importance of the painting in the fight against war (Matthew 49). The meanings of Picasso’s painting vary according to the interpretation provided. In the sculpture, many victims are visible with some alive and others dead which remains as a historical reminder of the times of war. Chaos by the European political unpredictability is visible in the composition of the Picasso’s painting. The color in the Guernica is black which mostly symbolizes death. Other artists during the time of Picasso who influenced the artwork of anti-war, or the like of Franisco de Goya not only did the artwork on war but also in a bullfight. The whole scene takes place within a room with one open end and a bull over a woman mourning for a dead child and some other hidden images. A light bulb to represent the sun and a broken sword to represent defeat are visible in the painting by Picasso known as Guernica (Shabi 12). Schneemann held a performance â€Å"snows† to protest the famous Vietnam War with a focus in values on flesh and this brought new fraught in politics. Schneemann participated in the New York City festival during the week of Angry Arts, which involved many performances and events from many artists in protest of the famous war. Her presentation shows the ambivalence of emotionally charged photos, which suggests uncertainty in the information overlaid and passing strategy. She also uses a film that she demonstrates the misuse of people in wars and the results of war. These artworks show that Schneemann was among the protestors

The Sun Case Essay Example for Free

The Sun Case Essay The sun is the center of solar system. All the eight planets in the solar system revolve around the sun. It is responsible for the day and the night we experience. It gives light and heat to the planets that revolve around it. Our Earth is the third closest planet to the Sun which is about 92 million miles from here to the sun (Myron, 2007). It may be far, but the Sun still provides enough light for plants to grow and enough heat for the people to be warm. This is made possible by the Sun’s very large size. The sun’s diameter is about 864, 938 miles. It is 10 times bigger than Jupiter, the biggest planet in the Solar System. Compared to the Earth, the Sun is 109 times bigger than our home planet (How Big is the Sun?, 2007). The Sun, even if it is very big, is mostly composed of gaseous elements like hydrogen and helium. It has a very hot temperature on its outer layer, and an even hotter inner layer. On the surface, it is about 5,515 degrees Celsius or 9,940 degrees Fahrenheit. Because of this very high temperature, the planets revolving around the sun receive heat and light even though they are very far apart. Why is the sun yellowish-white in color? We see the sun as yellowish-white because of its very hot temperature. The color is also scattered when the light passes through the atmosphere. What is left of the scattered is just the yellowish-white color which we see as the color of the sun. This is why we see a different color of the sun during the afternoon, when the sun is positioned very low in the sky (Dorn, 1999). The sun is a very magnificent body in space. It plays a very important part in our lives. We should be happy and proud that we have the Sun here in our Solar System. Reference: Dorn, E. (1999). What color is the sun in space? Development of Self as Nurse

Development of Self as Nurse HH/NURS 4516 Development of Self as Nurse: Advanced Professional Issues – CAREER PLAN ASSIGNMENT – Scanning Your Environment Self-Assessment Reality Check Career Vision Career Goals -In my third year clinical placement, my nurse mentor was organized and possessed excellent communication skills when dealing with the interdisciplinary team and the families of the newborns within her care. -Environmental constraints when looking for a job includes: job availability, changes in the healthcare economy (e.g. budget), and being up against many competitors wanting the same job. -Environmental resources: Nursing school faculty and also the clinical setting. -The opportunities of learning in my school setting is very diverse and have contributed in my decision and focus on working with newborns and their families. -Important social and health issues in my community would be many older adults in the community are staying home. As more of these older adults stay home they are at increased risk for falls and possible burns due to their declining motor skills and sensory senses. Current nursing issues affecting my local area would be a decrease in nursing jobs for new graduates. Older nurses are slowing turnover by taking longer to retire, and new graduates are flooding the market. -Many nurses use technology to document patient care and also to communicate with others in the interdisciplinary team. -Interventions to prevent stress and burnout and to retain nurses are critically necessary to ensure efficient and quality client care. -Global Health issues such as the Ebola virus disease in West Africa is currently now traveling all over the world. It is vital for nurses and nursing students to stay well informed about this severe illness in order to educate clients and the public to help prevent spread. -Horizontal violence is a global nursing issue affecting many nurses and their practice. -Practicing in the clinical setting as a nursing student has allowed me the opportunity to spend additional time with my clients and learn more about who they are as a person as oppose to viewing them as walking diagnosis and room number. -It is essential that I Maintain balance and values in all aspects of my life because nursing can be quite stressful at times and a good support system is needed to help cope with stress. -In the clinical setting, I am able to therapeutically support my clients and tend to their needs while still maintaining my professional boundaries. My most significant accomplishments while in the nursing program would be receiving an invitation to join York University’s honor society for being the top 15% student in the faculty of health. -As a result of an increased self-awareness and increased knowledge base in my forth year, I feel that I am much more interactive and confident with members of the multidisciplinary team and with the patients. -New knowledge and skills that I have acquired since my last self-assessment would be there is an increase in my ability to perform technical skills such as monitoring, setting up and administrating IV medications and also inserting a urinary catheter using sterile technique to my clients. In the beginning, I had some time management issues due to saving my charting until towards the end of the shift, which then resulted in me leaving clinical late. Now, I ensure that I document as I go; thus improving my time management in the clinical setting. I am known as a hard worker and focused individual which has been evidenced by the numerous academic recognition awards I have received. I have been told that my strengths in the clinical setting include patient education, patient advocacy, and meeting the client’s basic needs. The key areas for development that I need to improve upon would be memorization of lab values. Often times, people describe me as a good listener and very patient and caring. -My assessment of my accomplishments compared with others assessments of me are quite accurate when being compared together as I feel I am a hard worker that prides in giving quality patient care and producing work of the same caliber in the classroom. I am hopeful that I will receive my request for the NICU as my final practicum as I have met the additional requirements needed for this specialized area; by going this route, I may be able to take part in the new grad initiative and hopefully secure a job if available. I have been able to identify my strengths and weaknesses with the help of my preceptor and my own reflection in clinical and theory practice. I am optimistic about what my nursing career holds in the future and also gaining the ability to grow and learn as a person and a nurse in my clinical experiences. -I am an expert practice neonatal intensive care nurse that works with a diverse group of young clients and their families in a large teaching hospital in the downtown region of Toronto. In the clinical setting I have been recognized for my extensive knowledge base, my ability to work effectively and efficiently under high levels of stress and also collaborate effectively with the interdisciplinary team. In accordance with the College of Nurses (CNO) standards of practice, I ensure that my nursing practice is always being guided and supported by current research; In addition I have been diligent in taking continuing education certificate courses at available colleges and universities online and locally. Through years of experience I have perfected the craft of building the nurse-client relationship by utilizing therapeutic techniques which will enable me to provide comfort and support to families in my care. Short term Network with other nurses in the NICU through a professional organization and related interest groups. Use nursing practice placement experiences gained in my previous semesters and final integrated practicum to develop necessary competencies in this area of practice. Connect with nurse mentors in the NICU clinical setting that I have worked with previously and use them as a resource. Get a staff nurse position in a Neonatal intensive care unit upon graduation and passing the NCLEX Long term 1. Take additional courses in order to become more knowledgeable in providing client and family centered care when attending to neonates. 2. Become a specialized Nurse Practitioner- (Need to complete the Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner certificate program at Ryerson University, subsequent to obtaining my Master’s Degree in Nursing.) Career Plan Action Steps Resources Timeline (When to accomplish) Indicators of Success (How will I know I have succeeded?) Next Steps (How will you market yourself?) 1) Speak to up to three faculty staff members who could possibly become mentors in the area of neonatal intensive care or pediatrics. 2)Through my environmental scan, identify the professional skills and nursing practice competencies that are essential to working competently in the NICU 3) Speak to past nursing students and current nursing staff who have experience working on the neonatal intensive care unit. 4) Meet with the placement coordinator to discuss and understand placement requirements for forth year students entering into specialized integrated practicum areas (e.g. NICU). -Faculty members with a pediatrics and neonatal intensive care background Utilize contact information obtained from the Nurse manager on the NICU. -The College of Nurses website -Registered nurses association of Ontario Canadian Nursing Students Association -Nurse manager and staff on the NICU at Trillium health center. -Colleagues that just finished the nursing program in previous year. -Nursing practice placement coordinator -Faculty members with related neonatal intensive care background June 2015 April 2015 March 2015 November 2014 1) Make appointments with selected faculty members who have a neonatal and pediatric background to discuss the possibility of becoming my mentor. 2)- Ensuring that environmental scan is continually updated as my self-assessment or career vision may change. These updates indicate that significant changes may have occurred around me as I move forward in my job or education. -I will also attend professional association meetings. 3)-Connect with former colleagues who have graduated in the previous year via telephone or social media nursing groups to get feedback. Contact nurse manager via email to let her know of my interest in obtaining a new grad initiative position 4)-Contact the placement coordinator and related persons to establish a meeting time and place to discuss questions that I may have in regards to integrated Practicum. As a new graduate nurse, I am aware that I may not have much experience when compared to a more â€Å"seasoned† nurse when applying for the same job position; but I am confident in my abilities and know that I am able to learn and adapt to my environment with much quickness and efficiency. I am able to be my own best marketer when in a setting that requires selling of self by ensuring that I am being represented in the best possible way and utilizing all available resources. I am a member of The Golden Key International Honor Society in which I am able to attend conferences and workshops locally, provincially and nationally. This will allow me the opportunity to connect and network with colleagues who I may be able to call upon for advice and direction if needed. This will further aid in my success of being employed as new graduate nurse in my dream job the NICU.

Factors for MRI Image Quality

Factors for MRI Image Quality Title: MRI Image Quality TABLE OF CONTENTS 1.0 INTRODUCTION 2.0 SIGNAL TO NOISE RATIO (SNR) Figure 1 3.0 CONTRAST TO NOISE RATIO (CNR) 4.0 RESOLUTION AND SCAN TIME 5.0 THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MRI PARAMETERS AND IMAGE QUALITY Table 1: MRI parameters trade-offs (Proprofs.com, 2015) 6.0 CONCLUSION REFERENCES 1.0 INTRODUCTION Image quality is the most important element in imaging radiography. According to Courses Washington Education, (2015) image quality must be assessed on the basis of average performance of some task of interest by some observer or decision maker. It was stated that image quality must be defined in terms of a task on what information to be retrieved from an image; and the observer on how the information will be extracted from the image. Since MRI image is a digital image, it is greatly depends on image contrast and its spatial characteristics. Nevertheless, one of the disadvantages of this flexibility is a greater difficulty in terms of the choice of scanning parameters. In general scan times are not negligible and there is a certain tendency towards artefact. However, the most fundamental limitation in MRI is the signal-to noise ratio (SNR) which is dependent upon the hardware, mostly the main field strength and radiofrequency (RF) coils, upon the relaxation properties of tissue and upon the choice of sequence parameters. Good image quality depends upon making good scanning parameter choices (McRobbie, 2007). 2.0 SIGNAL TO NOISE RATIO (SNR) The signal to noise ratio can be defined as the ratio of the amplitude of the signal received to the average amplitude of the noise whereas the signal is the voltage induced in the receiver coil by the precession of the net magnetic vector in the transverse plane (Westbrook et al. 2011, pp.104). Noise can be defined as an undesirable backgroundinterferenceor disturbance that affects image quality (Mr-tip.com, 2015). According to Weber (2015), noise is caused by two factors which are the electromagnetic noise in the body due to movement of charged particles; and small anomalies in the measurement electronics, which depends on the size of the RF coil and the bandwidth of the pulse sequence. In addition, noise occurs at all frequencies and is also random in time and space. On the other hand, the signal is cumulative, and occurs at time TE, depends on many factors and it can be altered. The signal is therefore can be changed in relation to the noise. Increasing the signal increases the SNR, while decreasing the signal decreases the SNR. Therefore, any factor that affects the signal amplitude in gives effect to the SNR. The factors that affect the SNR include magnetic field strength, the proton density, voxel volume, repetition time (TR), echo time (TE), flip angle, number of excitations (NEX), receive bandwidth and coil type (Westbrook et al. 2011, pp.104). According to McRobbie in his book, MRI from Picture to Proton (2007), images with a poor SNR will appear fuzzy. An important aspect of image optimization is to certify that there is a high enough SNR for the images to be diagnostically valuable yet low SNR may result in losing small details or the obscuring of subtle contrast changes. Therefore, contrast to noise ratio (CNR) is always taken into consideration in the aspect of image quality. Figure 1: Increasing the basic resolution will increase the image quality. However, increasing the resolution more than the acceptable range will produce grains in the image due to low SNR and reducing it will produce a blurry image due to high SNR. Increasing basic resolution will result in prolonged time. (Image adapted from Mrimaster.com, 2015) 3.0 CONTRAST TO NOISE RATIO (CNR) CNR can be defined as a measure to assess the ability of an imaging procedure to generate clinically useful image contrast. However, the image contrast itself is not precise enough to qualify an image, because in a noisy image it is uncertain where the contrast originates. It depends on two factors either due true tissue contrast, or it may be due to noise fluctuations. The human ability to distinguish between objects is proportional to contrast, and it decreases linearly with noise (KTH, 2015). By improving CNR the perception of the distinct differences between two clinical areas of interest will be increased. In a simple word, acontrasttonoiseratio is a summary ofSNRandcontrast. It is the difference inSNRbetween two relevant tissue types (Mr-tip.com, 2015). CNR is controlled by the same factors that affect SNR. However, it is considered as the most critical factor affecting image quality (scrsl.weebly.com, 2015). 4.0 RESOLUTION AND SCAN TIME In MRI imaging, the scan time is advisable to be as short as possible. This is because the longer the patient lies on the table; the more likely it is that they will move. Moreover, if the patient has moved during the scan, the image produced will have a great SNR (Westbrook et al. 2011). The minimum scan time in MRI imaging is affected by TR, matrix size and NEX while the spatial resolution is determined by matrix size, FOV and slice thickness. By increasing matrix size or decreasing FOV and slice thickness increases spatial resolution at the expense of either decreased signal-to-noise or increased scan time. In order to obtain images of high resolution with high signal-to-noise requires longer scan times. All of the scan parameters affect signal-to-noise ratio. However, the signal within an image can be enhanced either by increasing TR, FOV, slice thickness and NEX or by decreasing TE and matrix size. The most direct way to increase signal is by increasing NEX, but increasing NEX from two to four which doubles the scan time, increases the signal by only the square root of two. Lastly, TE does not affect scan time; however, it does determine the maximum number of slices in multi-slice mode. Increasing the TE or shortening TR decreases the number of slices that can be obtained with one pulse sequence (Spinwarp.ucsd.edu, 2015). 5.0 THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN MRI PARAMETERS AND IMAGE QUALITY An image that is obtained in a short scan time, with a good spatial resolution and high SNR is preferable yet is hardly to achieve as increasing one factor certainly reduces one or both of the other two (Westbrook et. al, 2011). Trade-offsexists when changing imaging parameters to obtain the best images possible. For instance, the SNR, resolution, and acquisition time, are all interconnected. Changing one will affect the others. It is important to decide what factors are more important for an examination of a particular body part, patient and suspected abnormality. For example, when looking at the pituitary or cranial nerves, some SNR may need to be less considered or use longer acquisition time to improve the spatial resolution. However, in a claustrophobic of patient in pain who may be moving around, both resolution and SNR for the shortest possible examination time need to be considered to produce better image quality and preventing motion artefact (Ballinger, 2015). Thetable below summarizes the trade-offs in MRI between SNR, resolution, time, maximum number of slices and distance covered. Table 1: MRI parameters trade-offs (Proprofs.com, 2015) 6.0CONCLUSION In conclusion, the quality of an MR image depends on several factors which include the spatial resolution and image contrast, SNR and CNR and also artefacts. An MR examination is cooperation between scan time and image quality and its sequence parameters will have to be optimized in function of the organs and pathology. Moreover, the signal intensities and contrast are determined by the timing parameters TR and TE and also the flip angle. Besides, to produce a good image in MRI the scan time should always be as short as possible to avoid patient movement by using the shortest TR possible, select the coarse matrix possible and reduce the NEX to a minimum. My Grade 11 co-op placement was Sherwood Hunt Law Office. There are two Lawyers there, an office manager, and two law clerks. I usually spent most of my time with the law clerks and began to learn a lot from them right from the beginning. Jim Hunt, the lawyer who was present the most at the law office was whom I had to time to have nice, insightful conversations with about Law, School, and life.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  I always thought of how hard it was going to be in university and law school. I got to talk to Jim to see just how hard he had to work in school to make him as successful as he is now. He told me about when he was going for his MBA, he had twelve exams near Christmas, and if that wasn’t hard enough, if he got lower than a B on any of them, he was out of the course. These were just a few of the challenges Mr. Hunt had to face.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  My usual day involved answering the phones, making some photo copies, and doing odd jobs, like opening or closing files, and writing or revising a letter or document of some sort.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Being at this placement I learned many things. To begin with, I learned some of the challenges I’m going to have to face in school, and how hard I’m going to have to work. I was talking to Mr. Hunt about my current courses and I mentioned that I was worried that my strengths in Math and Physics would not be useful in the law workplace. Fortunately, Mr. Hunt reassured me that they are plenty useful in the law environment, and in fact, Jim got a 99 in University Physics.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  I also learned specific skills at this work place. Things that will help me out as I become a lawyer, such as, how to write an affidavit, open and close files (although this may change at different law offices) and read a statement of claim or search through files to find one specific point. Also, I learned about serving a defendant / plaintiff in a law suit. This can be a very time consuming process, (or a very simple one) and there is usually someone that is paid to do this. In one case in the law office, they had to hire a Private Investigator to find a person to be â€Å"served†.

Stereotypes of White Males Essay -- stereotypes, white males,

When people hear the word stereotype, they usually think of black people, Mexicans, Native Americans, women, and other races. Most people do not think there could be a stereotype against white males. People usually think that it would be the white male that would stereotype other races and not be stereotyped themselves. The truth is that white males get stereotyped just as much, if not more, as other races. White males have been categorized as hateful, major racists, skinheads, and over-privileged. In today’s society, a white male can’t criticize any other race without fear of being called a â€Å"hater† or a â€Å"racist†. One of the biggest forms of racism towards the white male is what the government calls â€Å"Affirmative Action†. Affirmative Action is something the government made to insure ...

Imagery in Adventures of Huckleberry Finn

What Mark Twain is trying to portray in this part of, Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, is that Boggs is plainly looking for trouble, and Colonel Sherburn is as well. In this part of the book, Boggs comes galloping along on his horse, to town where he wants to kill Sherburn. His motto, â€Å"meat first, and spoon vittles to top off on† (107) is referring to him killing Colonel Sherburn and then eat him up in a sense of having pride that Boggs defeated someone. When I was reading this part of the novel, I pictured Boggs as a mid-aged, really large man. Also, the book said he had a really red face so it made me picture him getting out of breath easy. Losing his breath foreshadowed a bit to me that he was the one that was going to be defeated, being â€Å"weak†. As Boggs was trying to act strong and brave, it turned out that Sherburn was the brave one, I pictured. Sherburn seemed like he just walked out of the store in Arkansas in a brave matter, with no care in the world aft er he gave that speech. Colonel Sherburn seemed sick of Boggs running his mouth, and so he shot Boggs multiple times. The word â€Å"bang! kept appearing in this chapter, and it showed me how Sherburn wanted to do what he thought was necessary, though he was frustrated a bit. What really caught my eye was when they were trying to keep Boggs alive, and they put a Bible over his chest and under his head. This made sense that they thought, through their religion, that that could help Boggs out and that the Holy Spirit would bring him back to life, but unfortunately they did not. When first reading this, chills were brought to me with the smell of really fresh air and the sound of huffing and puffing as Boggs kept gasping for that sweet air.

Globalization and State Power Essay

As a comparatively new opinion in the setting of companionable sciences, globalisation is the considerably the ecumenical tool that embodies sets of processes that connect societies thus fragmenting and transcending the social structure it confronts (Krieger, 2005). The suppose then serves as an indispensable institution under lots any projected contingencies, but does tolerate new and influential challenges to its foundational mandates mandates. The multifarious debates on globalization has increasingly centered on the relation of the province- country to economical schemas. Although such(prenominal)(prenominal) connotation is gradually misbranded in rationale, both the nation- evidence or the inter- claim carve upification is seen retaining its primacy as the axis of supranational dealings and world development. The coining of hygienic state, is it perceived that the state, having been considered as the bridge of globalization in a dualist construct that posits p art logics for an expanding economy and political system (Williams, 2002).In the foreign community, it can be spy that the states, leadership, or opposite individuals who progress to the g oernment agency in the international community has a large influence, either deliberate or unintentional, over the decision of other states, leaders or other individuals. The affairs of all single nation can be noted as unique in umteen ways (Patterson, 2000). Direct interference from external elements such as the other states whitethorn very well minify the sovereignty of a nation over its profess territory. This is to say that every nation has a primordial reign over its own domain which insuresor ought to guaranteethe idea that the state is supreme in basis of draw outfulness in its own land (Kacowicz, 1993). But what happens to this condition in the context of a large international community with varying degrees of capabilities, resources and, ultimately, political origin? An alysis on the social-spatial distinction and power of globalizationThe socio-spatial distinction and power of globalization, which at hand is then inherited to the state, is obviously what makes globalization not only a tool for reaching almost all the corners of the globe, but including the long-term series effects which shall surface. Consequently, how the state responds when globalization is escalating will pass water a noteworthy impact on its capability to retort when globalization falters. Since the state possess both governmental and corporeal power, scholars point out the fact that corporate capitalism is the blood that keeps holds all nations and binds them up together despite the issue of diversity. Thus, it is by dint of the philosophy of social justice that these factors ar evaluated. Synthesis on the role of a state in the context of globalization The sources of power in international relations can then be presumed to declaration primarily from the resources of the state or leader. These resources urgency not essentially correspond to fiscal resources for there are many other resources that can empower a state or a leader in international affairs. One of these resources is manpower which mainland china and India can be noted as wealthy of. How does manpower become a source of power in international relations? The answer can be traced from the presumption that much people agent more hands capable of lend to the workforce. Although the industrial revolution and information and communication theory technology have radically alter the demand for manpower, it can be notice that the expansion of industries and technology further need additional manpower. With states such as China and India a cut above the easement in terms of manpower, the amount of industrial production from within the state comparatively becomes higher than those states with very minimal workforce. And eon a healthy local assiduity boosts a states economy, displace m anpower to foreign countries further amplifies the hazard of expanding the gross income of the nation (Krieger, 2005). For the most part, a financially wealthy nation has more purchasing power in many ways which gives it the capacity to take run across over resources and pull strings them according to the elicit of the state (Williams, 2002).The geography of a certain(p) state alike gives it power, specifically strategic power, in wielding a dominant force not only in terms of military affairs but also in terms of commerce and condescension or economic progress. For the most part, a state which is situated within the molding of an adjacent state is expected to have a form of trade relations (Krieger, 2005). Communication also becomes inevitable amid these adjacent states since borders separating them become diminished through wireless communication. For instance, a nation such as Italy surrounded by contiguous states is very much alive in terms of trade and commerce, giving it the economic power in contrast to detached states (Williams, 2002). Conclusions and further remarks To presume that the definition of power is a not static concept is to presume that the essence of power changes such that at one point it may refer to competence to manage and warp resources in harmony to the interest of the state or of leaders. On another point, it may not refer to the opposite such as the competence of the lower class or of the members of the state to yield and manipulate resources. Yet this presumption is misleading for the effort that the parallels of both instances are masked by the idea that leaders does not accommodate the larger members of the state or that the members of the state do not include the leaders of the state. Clearly, how the state responds to globalization depicts its power and capabilities.References Kacowicz, A. M. (1993).Teaching international Relations in a changing World Four Approaches. Principles of Microeconomics Essay

translate and occupy is a contrive that every cardinal hears in whizz behavior or an otherwise, render and aim language fit to colander, (2010) is the most used diction by economist and the reason is because the word provides a good off-the-cuff tell for many question that have to do with economy. Or or else Quantity demanded falls as hurt rises, other things constant. And on the other hand Supply support be defined as Quantity supplied rises as price rises, other things constant. Or alternatively Quantity supplied falls as price falls, other things constant. By decreasing rent demand will increase vacancy will decrease and revenue will increase.Shifts of the Supply and Demand CurvesAs the offer of apartment increases the supply curve shifts towards the even off as direct result of apartment supply increase lease rate in any case increases. Total of apartment supply is 2,500 and by leasing all of the apartment lease rate will be set to $1,500. Because demand curve shift downward when rent rate and apartment supply increases, by increasing rent rate to $1,500 demand will lower and in tramp to accomplish equilibrium, company would assume to lower rental rate to $1,050. This is whe re the supply and demand reaches equilibrium.Relevance in palpable World and at the WorkplaceSupply and demand is a famous idiomatic expression as previously mention and one dont realize that this phrase or concept applies to one person-to-person life in a crew of ways. For example I work for a bank and we sell services to guest in the form of banking, legal transfer or investment products. From a Macroeconomic potential all of us a one point need to have a bank bank bill of in order to accomplish many financial needs, it is because of these need that there is always demand for banking products. It is establish on this demand that interest order for bringings accounts varies based on the demand the supply (interest rates) varies. From a microeconomics prospective if extraneous indicators like market condition or unemployment rate variety shows rates for saving account will withal change. It is based on those factors that sometimes people decides to stop saving and bank w ill to increase saving rates but bank can only do it to a definite point because increasing saving rates to much will mean that modify money will have a higher rate. There is got to be balance. rationality the concepts of macroeconomics andmicroeconomics help understand factor that affects shifts in supply and demand because now one can see with clarity what are the categories and what those categories are, the ones influence supply and demand and how this same(p) factor may bring equilibrium. cost Elasticity of DemandAccording to Colander (2010), the price elasticity of demand is the dowery change in quantity demanded shared by the percentage change in price. As for this simulation, if the demand experiences a prohibit percentage change (if it decreases) the price of lease an apartment will also decrease. So, rental rate will decreases as the demand decreases. On the other hand, when the supply decreases or increases, the rental rate will breathe constant. If the demand incr eases, the rental rate will be increased, since more people will want apartments (the company is able to increase the prices the law of demand). According to Colander (2010) Price Elasticity of Demand can be defined as the percentage change in quantity demanded divided by the percentage change in priceConclusionThis paper has referred to various terms from the macroeconomic and microeconomic environment. It has analyzed trends and also shifts of the supply and demand curve for a company that rents two-bedroom apartments in Atlantis. The paper has also referred to situation from the real world where microeconomic concepts can be applied. Last, it has talked about price elasticity of demand with respect to the company that rents apartments. The paper serves as an element of pinch supply and demand concepts when it comes to the microeconomic environment. reservoirColander, D. C. (2010). Economics (8th ed.). New York, NY McGraw-Hill. With each scene complementing each other, we ar welcomed into the play, with an dramatic opening.8. As an au live onnce, how does shaft 1-3 serve to steady our please and expectations? passim dig 1-3 of passage 1, there ar many ways as to which they serve to invoke our by-line and expectations, and gallop us deep into the play, and holding us there, to look ahead to the followers scene, and on, retentivity us shoot up, and concerned to go on. The characters set forth too serve to aro subprogram our raise and expectations by havin g special personalities, which we do not see day by day. Also, their character traits argon special, and somehow, coiffe us to like and admire them, and at the alike time, preferably abominate them. This is an elicit and labyrinthian musical theme in the play, and attracts our circumspection, and causes us to oddity how these characters would end up, and what would feel to them, and their lives. The imagery apply similarly amazes us and cause us to infer deeper into the play, and deduce more approximately it. The relationship organize amongst characters creates many unalike twists to the plot, for instance, the love triangle mingled with Olivia, Viola and Orsino. The confusion of the relationships and plot adds to the plot and take holds us by-lineed. Also, we atomic number 18 not insofar told as to whether Violas chum, Sebastian is actually alive, from, O my deplorable brother and so peradventure may he be, she is more anticipant than sure. This gives us a sort of anticipation, and we try to guess whether or not Sebastian is alive, in fact, anticipate sincerely yours that Sebastian is alive, as we lav feel the lose of soulfulness losing a love one.Initially, when Orsino, one of the heros of the play is introduced, we shoot to an impression that he is emotional, and wallows in his avow emotions, be self-involved and trivial. He is more in love with himself, and the brain of organism in love, much more that being truly in love with the person Olivia. This bum be seen from how he is precise much dependent on the orthogonal environment of the environs to get into the imagination of love, and feels that the sort out humour is meaty for love. This is seen from, If music be the diet of love, play on and out-of-door before me to winsome beds of flowers/ fuck thoughts lie profuse when flowerpotopied with bowers. From and then, we ar fishy as to how, Orsino, such a person who likes to whine, and fickle, mane uver by emotions, could be one of the primary(prenominal) characters of the play, consequentlyforth, we go on to grow in recreate towards the play.We atomic number 18 overly stupefied at his level of smart abilities, and how he is cultured, using descriptive imagery, to speak his pampering in love. His use of flowery language emphasizes on a tone of hyperbole, towards the play, and enacts his nature of being exaggerated, which we afterward tell apart in the resembling scene (scene 1), is similar to Olivia. From this, we tail end see that Shakespe be arouses our quest by broad us an prospect to live with our throw stab at analyzing and dejectionvass the of import characters. We be haggard into the play by this, and go deeper into the play, to see to it out more astir(predicate) these raise characters.Furthermore, in scene 1, we ar introduced and immersed into the atmosphere of love, and romance. This is set in by Orsinos speech, constantly revolving cl ose love, and his rich use of imagery, his exaggeration in his speech. every these set aside humourous devices, for instance, the exaggeration in language. Orsino exaggerates what he says, and These sovereign thrones, be all supplied, and filld/Her pleasant improveions with one self king sends forth this impression that Orsino is egoistic, and exaggerative. This sets the tone of amusement, of the unbelievable, the unrealistic. The imagery in any case adds to the sensory system of soupiness and romance, atmosphere of love and emotions. Thus, we be attracted by the use of language, the exaggeration of it, and emaciated by the character Orsino, his c failch toward Olivia, and we scratching to wonder, whether this unreciprocated love, or infatuation, would get any results, or end up to be anything good. Also, the similarities in the midst of Orsino and Olivia stirs up our pursual and re principal(prenominal)der towards them, and we ache an nervous impulse to have it away more some them, and learn more to the highest degree how the plot belatedly develops. From initially, we tell apart that Orsino loves Olivia, but Olivia does not deal to show any affections for men at this moment, as she has preoccupied both her father, and her brother, males who were her close to love ones. This is a development of the plot, and we easily comprehend how the relationships in the midst of characters ar, and their nature surfaces, and we grow to admire or disfavour or like them. In scene 1, the employment and debate indoors Orsino himself is evident, as he feels strangled, hurt by this love, and wants the love to die so it would no longitudinal cod him.We, however, sorrow him, as he believes himself to be really and all in love with Olivia, when actually, he is more in love with himself and the conception of love. We sympathise with him, but at the same(p) moment, tummynot seem to impel ourselves, that Orsino is a gullible and dodge lover. This is shown from how can clear say that O spirit of love, how quick and angelic art thou, yet not be able to take a shit that his own love for Olivia is only if an infatuation, and at any point of time, could bonny die, and disappear, in spite of appearance the guessing of a finger. From this, we ar further indulged in one-twelfth Night, as our interest towards the plot and characters grow. The use of word play in scene 1, stag and heart, adds to the wit and eccentric display of the play and arouses our interest. anyways this, the many references to nature in his speech, with beds of flowers, and music, we are reminded of images of veritable nature and beauty, overwhelming, and sets an vestigial tone, of optimism, and allows us to be light-hearted, and look forward to the rest of the play. Also, the play is set in the land of Illyria, which is a fictitious place, hence giving room for our imaginations to run wild, and call up this place to be similar to that of fairy tales, and allows us to gasconade in our dreams of a perfect place, where such situations seem to happen very often, and love and romance surrounds the land. This brings us back neighborly memories of fairy tales, and our hopes are rekindled, as we enter into an unrealistic play, where things that happen are more improbable, and certainly, very marvellous to happen to us in terrestrial lives. Valentine, one of Orsinos servants, as we can tell from his name, is a portion to the romantic tone and atmosphere of the play.Olivia, other protagonist of the play, is introduced into the play, through Valentino, and we are stipulation an psyche that she is as well a extremely emotional and sentimental person, quite a superficial, toilsome to earn attention and pity in her sadness towards her jobless brother, as she is utter to be In her cloistress, she will passing game veil and eye-offending seawaterall this to chasten a brothers jobless love stay zippy in her sad memori alization. From here, we are told that she wants to always repute the feeling of losing her brother, which shows her superficial catch towards authorized love, and feels that the outside mourning, would leave alone a certain sense of unassumingness and genuine love, which as we can tell. This is a constituent towards the chief(prenominal) plot of the story, as another main character of the play is introduced to us, and we are inclined an paper of the protagonist, and we stimulate to desire to know more about these characters. In scene 2, Viola, the main character of the play is understandably introduced into the play of 12th Night, set in the coast, tell between the settings of the preliminary scene Orsinos room. in that respect is a change in speed, from one of dumb moving, to one that is active, and not passive. This is a coarse change, and hence, we are pushed forward towards the unshakable abuse of eh play, and we are drawn towards the arbitrariness and vari ety of events. We, as the auditory modality are stirred by this change, and are excited, and are enkindle towards the play, and the plot. Also, in this scene, the theme of disguise and uncertainty in gender, identity and intentions is entered. We are cursorily modify towards this theme, as Viola decides and plans to disguise herself as a eunuch, a symbol of uncertainty towards gender. wholly these draws us towards the play as we learn more about the characters, and in fact, go deeper into the play, and start to apprise the use of words, the way they speak, and the themes they bring out. There is too a note between scene 1 and 2, as scene 2 is set in a more ominous tone, more serious. Viola begins the scene by petition about the irrelevant land she is in, before request the captain about her brother, to sustain out whether he is alive. We are thrown and twisted into a fit of guessing inside ourselves, and question whether Sebastian, Violas equal brother is alive. Also, we are accustomed an inclination that Viola is fire in Duke Orsino, from, OrsinoHe was a bachelor wherefore, as she mentions nobody else, but the fact that he was case-by-case and usable then, suggests her front interest in Orsino. Hence, she tries to get closer to him, by disguising herself, and creating this love triangle, which moves the plot forward. We are henceforth attracted to these build up of the plot, and check-out procedure raise in the play. shooter 3 follows to will us with an thinker as to who the tyke characters of the play, the quite a little of the subplot are, and how they are like. Sir Toby, Maria and Sir Andrew are thus introduced into the scene, with Sir Toby and Maria with differing opinions towards Sir Andrew. They play with each others words, and we are attracted by their witty nature, and grow to like them, although Sir Toby is a rather rough person, less cultured, and more vulgar, and rough, from how he uses slang like, What the abomination . We are also, wide-awake for the primitiveness of language, for they are oral presentation in prose, and hence we can tell they are of a lower position and class. The jokes Sir Toby cracks are coarse, and at the expense of others, and some, sexual puns, ply to earshot of less educated families, and people, who are less cultured. In addition, Sir Andrew, a dim-witted man, is the express feelings rakehell of the scene, as he is dense, and slow to understand the puns and word play Sir Toby and Maria wittily speak. He is poked fun at, and still, does not know what is going on. We are ridiculed at his stupidity, but at the same time, cant help express feelings and enjoying his existence in the play, to create the quaint effect of the play. another(prenominal) theme of the play, the perturbationing of positions, of how Sir Toby can overturn Olivias ataraxis home, to that of a place of uncivilized behaviour. Therefore, the 3 initial scenes each have their own ways of arousing the attention of the audience, and keep us pasted to the play, and not lose interest in just a moment, due to the anomalous effect of the play, and the distinguishable enkindle and comic characters of the play, and the in stages development plot and subplot of the play.
